In Underworld the second novel in the Abandon series by Meg Cabot we find our protagonist Pierce Olivera settling into her….new surroundings.  If you’ll remember in the previous novel John (the ruler of the underworld that is under Isla Huesos) brought Piece back down after her grandmother (possessed by a fury) tried to kill her.

So, now she is taking in her new surroundings, still trying to get a handle on all that has happened.  While she is exploring she hears a ring and tracks the sound to her backpack in which is her cell phone.  She opens her phone to see a video of her cousin running out of oxygen trapped in a coffin. Very fearful that he cousin is in danger she goes to track down John who is off at his job at the boat dock.

In search of him she meets some colleagues of his that keep the underworld running smoothly with him.  They call John Captain and do various jobs, some more bodyguard like, while others like my favorite, little Henry, hand out blankets to those waiting to be sorted.

Once she finds John he tells her that the video that she saw is not necessarily something that has happened yet.  It could be something from the future, or even a trick played on her by Furies to bring her out of hiding.  After some negotiations john agrees to bring her above ground so she can do some investigating

I enjoyed this book it definitely is a great follow up to the first and ends with an awesome cliffhanger in my opinion!  Pick it up an let me know what you think!
