The Hungry Games!

Before you say it, I know. I am bias! I was reading my friend feed on Facebook last night and as soon as I saw this I HAD to post it.  Recently, Sesame Street has been doing short parodies of popular TV and movies.  This particular one is based off of...you guessed it, The Hunger Games!  Enjoy and let me know what you think below!

Making my Contribution!

Recently, I was asked by a good friend Angela Yuriko Smith to become a contributor to her blog Dandilyon Fluff!  She has been busy with work and hosting the radio show Journal Jabber and because of this has not had much time to devote to it.  Today is my first post! I hope you enjoy!

REVIEW: Pawn by Aimee Carter

December 2013
Harlequin Teen
ISBN-10: 0373210558
ISBN-13:  978-0373210558

One of my favorite Author’s Aimee Carter is coming out with a new series this month! I was lucky enough to get an ARC that was sent to the bookstore I work at.  It starts with a dystopian novel called Pawn and centers around the main character, a girl named Kitty Doe.  In Kitty’s America families are only allowed to have one child in order to control population and those that have more are forced to give the child up for adoption.  Since shortly after her birth she has lived in a group home with 40 other children like her, all given the last name of Doe as they are wards of the state.   From birth to their 17th birthday children are prepared for a VERY important test. A test that determines their rank with 1 being the lowest and 7 being the highest, which is only reserved for the Hart’s, the ruling family of this new America.  Never having learned to read (but being very good at memorization) Kitty struggles but only receives a 3.

This news devastates Kitty who is told that she will now have to move to Denver and work in the waste industry. Kitty does not want to go because she is in love with her best friend Benjy who has lived with her in the same group home since they were babies.  So, against her better judgment she follows her friend Tabs advice and decides to become a prostitute in order to stay local.  She is put up on the auction block where she is bought by a stranger for an unheard of price.  As it turns out the whole transaction is a trick. Kitty is drugged and transformed into Lila Hart the niece of Daxton Hart the current leader of the country.  The real Lila was killed in an avalanche while on a ski trip and they “masked” Kitty to look like her to keep up appearances.

This is a great book! Aimee does it again!  The story is addicting from page one and I am completely in love with this series already!  Kitty is easy to sympathize with and fun to root for and I cannot wait to see what happens to her in book 2!
